(Portland --) Maine Marine Composites, LLC (MMC) announced successful completion of several engineering projects for the Houston, Texas-based Waller Marine, Inc. (WMI). The portfolio of work included:
MMC performed frequency and time domain simulations of vessel motions and mooring systems by using the ANSYS® AQWA™ program system. One of the motion reports was submitted to ABS to assist in their evaluation of the structure on a specialized oil spill response vessel. Richard Akers, CTO of MMC, said, “Our engineering expertise combined with our experience with specialized ANSYS tools allowed MMC to deliver high quality, detailed analyses that meet both the customer’s and the classification society’s needs.” Motion analyses indicate the limits of operation with respect to accelerations at specified machine locations. These reports include predictions of the ability of a vessel to tolerate extreme events such as 10-year or even 100-year return period storms.
Founded in 2006, Portland-based Maine Marine Composites LLC provides advanced engineering and analysis services for projects in the marine environment. MMC provides analysis services for hydrokinetic energy converters such as wave, tidal and river energy converters. Our design services can aid the operators of energy converters in tasks such as site selection for maximum production and minimum environmental impact in extreme ocean environments. Further, the company delivers design and analysis services to aid naval architects, including the prediction of boat performance, resistance and ergonomic ride quality, as well as full service boat design.
Since 1974, Waller Marine has been an industry leader in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The Company employs a diverse group of professionals to satisfy the multiple discipline practices associated with design, construction management, regulatory assistance, project development and contractual compliance.
